I don't know if this step was necessary but I was so angry with WinMagic that's where I went. My solution was to format c: from the DOS command prompt. Otherwise, the system was fine (I said sarcastically)? I also had TPM and startup security enabled, and I could not turn them off since the key I possessed was not recognized. And Windows said I needed to have the drive decrypted to update to the latest version of Win 10. WinMagic settings did not show the apply button when I had the encrypt drive box unchecked - no way to decrypt my WinMagic-encrypted drive. I had the same problem with an HP Elite x2 1012 G1, BIOS version 01.19. I'll post the fix if and when we find one. I'm going to close this question off as it's only getting worse.

This did not work and has now rendered the SSD unusable. They got me to try a firmware update for the drive to wipe the current settings. Then they realised that this is a self encrypting drive (I had mentioned this to them on multiple occasions). Update: HP have had me retry everything I'd already done. Apparently there's a key provided by the drive manufacturer that can reset the drive, but no-one I've spoken to at HP have heard of this.

It's a Self Encrypting Drive, so it's set on the hard drive itself. It's been hard to explain that it's not BIOS related and it's not OS related. I've been escalated to the next level support to see if they can find a fix. Update: After 2 days on the phone with HP there's no resolution. It will mean the laptop will never be able to used on Win 7 again. I phoned HP and they have initially said that there isn't a way to reverse the encryption in my case. I've contacted WinMagic and they advised HP will need to remove the SED config to set it back to a default unencrypted drive. The Samsung drive management software won't recognise the drive as a Samsung so that's no help either Win 7 won't install as it sees the drives as encrypted. I tried Partition Wizard, but the encryption wouldn't allow the partitions to be removed. I've tried HP Client Security in Win 8 but this can't remove any settings as the "drive is already managed". As I did a network boot from BIOS, it skipped the WinMagic login and Win 8 didn't show the WinMagic boot partition when choosing the drive to install to. I installed Win 8 Pro without realising the Winmagic software and Bootloader were in place. The laptop was on Win 7 Pro 圆4, HP ProtectTools was used to register the fingerprint and has created the boot partition and applied some form of encryption to the OS drive. There's a WinMagic Bootloader partition and drive encryption that a user set up and we can't remove it. We've got an HP Elitebook 840-G1, only 2 months old, and we can't issue it out. So I've been unable to find an answer to my situation.
